Genesis 18:21
"I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know."
Surface Meaning
The verse describes God “going down” to investigate the outcry
against Sodom and Gomorrah.
In DOASAM, this is not a geographical descent but an inner descent
of consciousness.
DOASAM Inner‑Anatomy Interpretation
“I will go down”
This symbolizes the descent of the Higher Self into the lower planes
of the soul.
• “Going down” = entering the astro‑mental nature
• The Higher examines the lower
• The Divine Light penetrates the subconscious regions where
distortion hides
This is the same movement seen in:
• Genesis 11:5 (the descent at Babel)
• Exodus 3 (the descent into the burning bush)
In DOASAM, the Higher Self always “descends” before transformation.
“To see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it”
The “cry” is the inner outcry of the soul—the pain, distortion, or moral dissonance rising from the lower nature.
- The “cry” = the vibration of disorder
- It signals that the lower self has reached a point of imbalance
- The Higher Self responds by examining the condition directly
This is not divine ignorance; it is divine scrutiny, the inner light revealing what the personality has concealed from itself.
“If not, I will know”
This expresses the principle of experiential knowing.
In DOASAM:
• The Higher Self “knows” the lower not by abstract omniscience
• But by entering it, illuminating it, and transforming it
This is the same principle as:
• “The Spirit searches all things”
• “The Word became flesh”
• “The light shines in the darkness”
The Higher Self knows the lower by becoming present within it.
Symbolic Structure
- God “going down”
This signifies the descent of the Higher Self into the lower regions of the soul. It is the movement of divine consciousness entering the astro‑mental nature to illuminate what lies hidden.
- The “cry”
This is the inner outcry of the soul itself — the vibration of disorder, suffering, or moral dissonance rising from the lower nature. It represents the pain of misalignment calling upward for correction.
- “To see whether they have done”
This expresses the Higher Self examining the actual condition of the lower mind. It is the light of truth revealing subconscious motives, impulses, and distortions.
- “If not, I will know”
This symbolizes experiential knowing: the Higher Self does not remain aloof but enters the lower planes to transform them from within. Knowing arises through presence, not abstraction.
- Sodom and Gomorrah
These represent the unpurified desires, impulses, and emotional states of the lower nature — the parts of the psyche that resist alignment with the Higher.
Esoteric Summary
Genesis 18:21 describes the moment when the Higher Self turns its attention inward, descending into the lower nature to examine, illuminate, and ultimately transform it.
The “cry” is the soul’s own suffering.
The “descent” is the awakening of conscience.
The “knowing” is the merging of light with shadow.
This is the beginning of purification.
