ADRASTIA, CRETAN NYMPH

A symbol of the law of cause and effect, or karma on the lower planes.

"The Demiurgus (Zeus), as Orpheus says, is nursed by Adrastia; . . . but he marries Necessity and begets Fate." - PROCLUS, Tim. V. 323.

“Adrastia is said to guard the Demiurgus; with brazen cymbals and sounding drums in her hands (at the mouth of the Cavern of Night), she sends forth sounds so that all the gods may turn to her." - PROCLUS, Theol. Plat. IV. 16, 206.

The Higher Self (Zeus) is brought up in the Soul (Cavern) by the laws of nature. Through the operations of karma, the ideals (gods) are aroused and evolved. The "sounds" signify the vibrations of emotion arising from the lower planes, which as the nature becomes raised and purified, arouse the higher qualities (gods) so that they may evolve in the soul.
