ANGER OF GOD

Symbolic of a relative and false conception which arises from the fear and hate of the lower nature directed against the Higher which it does not understand. It is the feeling engendered in the lower self that the Higher Self is an enemy. The Higher nature wears a forbidding aspect to the self-seeking personality. This is reflected in the semblance of Divine wrath.

"I (Moses) did neither eat bread nor drink water, because of all your sin which ye sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger. For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the Lord was wroth against you to destroy you. But the Lord hearkened unto me that time also. And the Lord was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also the same time." - DEUT. ix. 18-20.

The rational and ethical nature has been unable, in this backward state of soul, to partake of goodness and truth, because the lower mind has been so full of the activities of desire and sensation. The conscience, nevertheless, has been stirred and there is hope of progression. The spiritual mind (Aaron) was obscured, but the moral nature became a means for its revival.
