APOCATEQUIL, SON OF GUAMANSURI

A symbol of the Higher Self, proceeding from the Supreme.

"He was the first mortal to descend to earth. Associating with certain dwellers of the dusk called Guachimines, he seduced their sister, for which they slew him. But his offspring by her, born from two eggs, survived although their mother was slain. These were the twin brothers Apocatequil and Pigueras. The former recalled his mother to life, slew the treacherous Guachimines, and under the guidance of the god Ataguchu, made an aperture in the earth with a golden spade, through which the race of Peruvians emerged and took possession of the land." Non-classical Mythology, p. 12.

The Self in involution became immersed in matter (earth) and obscured by the desires (Guachimines). When perfected as the Archetypal Man he dies. But the Divine Life through the emotion-nature (sister) brings forth in the new cycle (evolution) the dual consciousnesses-the Individuality and the Personality. The Divine Individuality restores the emotion-nature and eventually the desires are overcome. The indwelling God operating through buddhi (gold) penetrates the lower nature (earth) and rises with his saints to heaven.
