ASTARTE, GODDESS OR QUEENA symbol of wisdom on the buddhic plane. “The king Melcarthus. The queen Astarte, or Saosis, or Nemanoun, the same as the Greek Athenais."-PLUTARCH, Isis and Osiris, § 15. The "king" is a symbol of the ego as governor of the astral activities. The names of the queen signify aspects of wisdom, i.e. Wisdom-love, Wisdom- power, and Wisdom-activity. “The goddess Astarte, or Asthertet, is in a chariot drawn by four horses which trample on the foes of Rd." - BUDge, Book of the Dead, Vol. I. p. 478. Wisdom is seated in the causalbody (chariot), directing the lower quaternary (horses), which through the mind overcomes the desires. |
