ATEA AND ATANUA, GOD OF LIGHT AND GOODNESS OF DAWNSymbols of Divine Will and Divine Wisdom, i.e. Atma-buddhi. "Light (Atea) having been evolved from darkness (Tanaoa), the god Ono or Sound' was evolved from Atea, and he destroyed 'Mutuhei' (silence). But from the foregoing struggle between Tanaoa and Atea, Ono and Mutuhei, arose Atanua or the dawn. Atea then took Atanua for a wife, and from them sprang their first-born Tumea. The Divine Will having proceeded from the potential (darkness), the “Word," or expression of God, became manifest in putting an end to the unmanifest (silence). Then from the interaction of matter (Tanaoa) and Spirit (Atea), and of activity (Ono) and inertness (Mutuhei), arose Wisdom (Atanua). Love (Atea) united with Wisdom and the Divine Son was born. Afterwards the Divine Will created the lower nature with its desires, etc. |
