DRÖPNER RING

A symbol of the quality of tamas, i.e. inertia, or lack of progressive energy, and of initiative.

"Odin cast upon the funeral pile (of Balder) the ring Dröpner, which possessed the property of producing every month eight similar rings of weight equal to itself. Balder's horse and all his riding-gear were also laid upon the pile.' - HOWITT, Literature, Prose Edda, etc.

And now it is that the Higher Self under the aspect of Will (Odin) casts forth the tamasic quality, which is eightfold, inasmuch as, being a condition of the four lower planes, it has duality of aspect on each plane. The month" is a symbol of time or space, and indicates phenomenal changes. Thereupon the rajasic quality of outgoing energy, and the functioning of the mind are substituted.
