FIRMAMENT, LOWER

A symbol of the lower mental plane.

“The Master soared upward to the lower firmament. And all the powers of that firmament were in great confusion because of the light, and seeing the mystery of their names and powers inscribed in it.” — *The Pistis Sophia.*

The “Master (Jesus) soaring upward” typifies the ascent of the Christ‑soul in the mind. The “lower firmament” signifies the lower mind, wherein confusion and disturbance arise through the struggle between the analytical faculties — which differentiate, define, and confine (names) — and intuition or inspiration (light), which presents the truth from within the soul to the mind.
