FORTY DAYS AND NIGHTS
A complete series of re-incarnations in a stage
or period of the soul's evolution. These re-incarnations are
transitory conditions on the lower planes.
“For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth
forty days and forty nights; and every living thing that I have made
will I destroy from off the face of the ground.” – Genesis vii. 4.
“Yet seven days,” — a numerical period which signifies completeness
of a stage of activity. A flood of truth (rain) is to descend and
envelop the lower nature. This outpouring from above is to last
forty days and nights, meaning a period which corresponds to a term
of the reincarnating cycle. The lower nature at this stage is to be
transformed, that is, raised and purified; hence it will no longer
exist as heretofore, but pass away.
