HEARING (LOWER ASPECT)A symbol of the reception of knowledge without wisdom. "Hearing" proceeds from "the flesh," i.e. it is the outcome of the desire nature. "To hear signifies to perceive." — Swedenborg, Apocalypse Revealed, n. 448. "I had heard of thee (the Lord) by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee." — Job xlii. 5. The condition and stage of the soul signified by "Job" became first cognisant of its higher nature through ordinary channels of information, but afterwards the mind perceived the truth within. |
