HOME; PLACE OF BIRTHA symbol of the source of the soul's being. Abode of the spiritual consciousness prior to the descent of the Monad into the arena of the lower life. The descent of the Divine Sparks, or Monads of Life, is followed by their triumphant ascent on the upward path to their true abode in Divine bliss. "Thou hast made us for Thyself, and our heart is restless till it find its home in Thee." — Augustine, Confessions, Opening words. "The place where I was born is God. God is my fatherland, . . . before I lived in myself, I lived already in God." — Tauler. "When I was a little child, and dwelling in my kingdom, in my Father's house, and in the wealth and glories of my nurturers had my pleasure, from the East our home, my Parents having equipped me, sent me forth." — “Hymn of the Soul,” Acts of Judas Thomas. When I, the Soul's prototype, was in the germ state,—a manifestation proceeding from the Divine Monad or radiation from God,—I dwelt as an undifferentiated unit in the bosom of the Eternal fullness; and in the greatness and opulence of my nature had my delight. From the "East,"—or along the path of the manifesting life to which the rising of the sun is comparable,—was I sent forth of my parents Love and Wisdom, or the Spirit and the vestures which clothed me. And with the potential wealth of the spiritual treasury, as latent powers of the soul, was I endowed. "Now there is not upon earth any creature but wisheth and willeth to come to that home, the high source of his being, where heart's ease is and endless rest, that plainly is Almighty God. Now there is not upon earth any creature but revolves like a wheel on itself; why so it revolves is that it may return where it erst was, where its earliest impulse began." — King Alfred, Works. "There is a raying out of all orders of existence, an external emanation from the Ineffable One. There is again a returning impulse, drawing all upwards and inwards towards the centre from whence all came." — Plotinus to Flaccus. "Return unto thy home O Soul! thy sin and shame leave thou behind on earth; assume a shining form—thy ancient shape,—refined and from all taint set free." — Rig-Veda. "Our spirits are eternally at home in God, even when in our particular generation retaining only the dimmest consciousness of our divine origin, we wander in the semi-darkness through the labyrinth of this strange, puzzling earth-world." — R. J. Campbell, Serm., Our Solidarity with God. |
