MAN BORN AS AN ANIMAL

Symbolic of an embryo ego on the mental plane which becomes embodied in a succession of animal forms in order to gain experience

And according to his deeds and according to his knowledge a man is born again here as a worm or as an insect or as a fish or as a bird or as a lion or as a boar or as a serpent or as a tiger or as a man or as somebody else in different places Kaush Upanishad

According to the ego's operative results and experience so is the monad's next life determined From the worm with its type of astral form to the man with human astral form and human soul and from personality to personality so the spark of Divine life manifests and progresses The evolution of the human astral form is accomplished from the evolution of the animal astral form the one flows insensibly into the other so that oftentimes the astral forms of the most intelligent animals though not in conscious touch with individual souls of their own are yet expressions of the astral life which will eventually manifest under human conditions when the law of karma provides openings for such embryo souls The astral life is brought up or worked so to speak through the animal evolution so that when the time arrives it provides the basis for the evolution of specifically human nature since it then corresponds to the awakenment of activities which necessitate a form of human kind in which the mind is brought into activity and which then forms a centre of individual consciousness such as will be able in time to direct its own evolution from within

To make the matter clearer the statement about being born again as a worm an animal or a man refers first to the astro-mental monad of form and second to the buddhi-mental monad of life the son of mind manasaputra both of which are of course associated so soon as the human soul is evolved with its awakened intelligence and indwelling germ of the Spirit when man rises permanently above the animal kingdom The deeds and knowledge determine the kinds of births of the embryo egos On the lowest astral plane as on the physical plane precedes effect and the law of each plane not only operates thereon but to some extent serves to regulate the conditions which obtain when the ego periodically descends into an astro-mental vehicle prior to re-birth

Man is properly the individual soul which is astro-mental that is when the differentiation from the animal order has taken place as it does on the fourth astral sub-plane and from thence the mind is stirred into activity
