MARRIAGE WITHIN CASTES
Symbolic of the centres of consciousness and
activity in the soul attaching to themselves bodies on the lower
planes through which to function and bring forth results.
"It is declared that a Sûdra woman alone can be the wife of a Sûdra,
she and one of his own caste the wives of a Vaisya, those two and
one of his own caste the wives of a Kshatriya, those three and one
of his own caste the wives of a Brahmana." - Laws of Manu, III. 13.
The four caste wives" of & "Brahmana” are the four soul-vestures or
bodies on the four lower planes attached to the causal centre or
Individuality (Brahmana). They are the physical body (Sûdra wife),
the astral body (Vaisya wife), the mental body (Kshatriya wife), and
the causal body (Brâhmana wife). They constitute the means for the
soul's activity on the different planes, the gathering of
experience, and the bringing forth of results (children).
