MULTIPLY AND BE FRUITFULAn expression to signify the need there is for the soul to increase its experiences, faculties, capacities, and higher qualities. "And God blessed them: and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth and subdue it." — GENESIS i. 28. And the Divine Power extended towards these manifesting aspects of Its own nature — the dual Archetypal Man (the image of God) — the assurance of infinite support. And the twain are directed to be fruitful, that is, be the means whereby the natural order is to be converted into the womb of that which is to transcend and divinise the soul. "Subdual of the earth signifies the gradual subordination of sense to Spirit, by the disciplining and purifying of the lower nature (earth). "Increase ye in increasing, and multiply in multitude, ye creatures and creations all; and man that hath Mind in him, let him learn to know that he himself is deathless, and that the cause of death is love, though Love is all" (Pœmandres, 18). — G. The Divine Will decrees that the union of mind and emotion is to be productive of thoughts, opinions, concepts, etc., and these again of various mental states. And the ego that hath the Spirit within him is to learn that he is thereby an immortal individuality (deathless), and that the cause of the death of the lower nature is love of the ego for the higher; for Love is all in All. |
