NOD, LAND OF
A symbol of the three lower planes in the soul.
"And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the
land of Nod, on the east of Eden." - GENESIS. iv. 16.
And the personality goes forth from the Lord; i.e. at the command of
the Higher Self it emerges into activity, and in its sheaths dwells
on the lower-mental, astral and physical planes, below the buddhic
plane (Eden) which is reflected in the personality.
"By Cain's going out from the faces of Jehovah' is signified that he
was separated from the good of faith grounded in love. By his
dwelling in the land of Nod' is signified his abode out of goodness
and truth. Towards the east of Eden' signifies near the intellectual
