PEOPLE, MEN AND WOMEN
A symbol of the lower mental and emotional
qualities; the natural undeveloped instincts and activities which
are to be disciplined and used as a means to the end of the
manifestation of the Self.
“And there followed him a great multitude of the people, and of
women who bewailed and lamented him. But Jesus turning unto them
said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for
yourselves and for your children.” — Luke xxiii. 27, 28.
The “company of people and women” signify the lower nature, which
clings to the letter of the scriptures and sees not the
glorification of the Spirit, which shall be accomplished in the soul
by breaking away from such limitations and impediments to Truth. The
Christ‑soul says — what the Higher nature can always say to the
lower — that the lower qualities must become dissatisfied with their
own state of captivity to custom and authority, for the lower mind
without its Head, or indwelling test of truth, is indeed in a sorry
plight.
