TAMAS STATEThis signifies mental inertia,– stupidity and lack of progressive energy in the lower mind. "Tamas is the deluder of all creatures; it imprisoneth the Ego in a body through heedless folly, sleep, and idleness. Tamas, surrounding the power of judgment with indifference, attaches the soul through heedlessness. Tamas produceth only senselessness, ignorance, delusion, and indifference." — Bhagavadgita, Ch. XIV. The mental activity of tamas is concerned only with the senses, the instincts, and the lower desires. It has no initiative, and seeks neither truth nor goodness. |
