WINDOW OF ARK OF NOAH

A symbol of the means whereby spiritual perception is established in the soul, so that the light of Truth may shine in.

"A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it." - GENESIS. vi. 16.

The “window” is a symbol of the aperture towards the Divine or receptive attitude of the mind towards Truth. The direction" in a cubit, etc.," signifies the complete finishing to the pattern upon which the causal vehicle is to be constructed. It is to be finished above," that is, it is to be capable of transmitting vibrations from higher planes. The "door" is the entrance to the mind for the vibrations from below -those proceeding from the desires, senses, etc. The "lower, second, and third stories" signify the three higher sub-planes of the mental plane.

"Some have supposed this 'window' (zohar, a word only occurring here, GENESIS. vi. 16), was an inward lamp or light connecting the word with oil,' and that again with the word mentioned 'the anointing' (1 JOHN ii. 27), which makes the light or instruction of this world unnecessary." - A. JUKES, Types of Genesis, p. 110.

As oil" is a symbol of Divine love or life, the " anointing on the crown of the head" signifies the bestowal of spiritual perception on the mind.
