ASHEMOGHA, THE UNGODLY

A symbol of ignorance and prejudice which retard mental growth, and obstruct knowledge.

“A man filled with the good spirit, can strive against the wicked tyrant and smite him on the head; it is this man that can strive against the ungodly Ashemogha who does not eat."-Vendi- dad, IV. S. B. of E.

The mind that assimilates know. ledge and truth, is able to withstand the pretensions of illusion (tyrant), and overcome it in its most subtle forms, such as pride. The ego thus equipped, can strive against ignorance and prejudice which do not allow of intellectual development. Not eating" signifies not incorporating knowledge (meat).
