MEAT, OR FOOD

A symbol of knowledge and higher emotion which conduce to the growth of the soul.

"The eyes of all wait upon Thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season." - Ps. cxlv. 15.

The qualities aspire, and the Divine Wisdom responds in bestowing truth and love, as they are prepared to receive sustenance for the soul. "And every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." - GENESIS. i. 29.

And every emotion which is capable of becoming exalted, and which can be the means of affording the soul growth, to the soul it shall serve as sustenance.

“The perfect measure of the Son of God, this it is the work of that Wisdom to make plain which has been hidden in a mystery; and it also may show to our thought how the laws about meats are symbols of those things which will there nourish and strengthen our soul." - ORIGEN, Comm. on John, Bk. X. § 13.
