A symbol of the highest aspirations of the mind
in contact with buddhi.
"Athene stood behind Peleus' (Achilles) and caught him by his golden
hair, to him only visible, and of the rest no man beheld her." -
Iliad, Bk. I.
The Wisdom principle (Athene) appeals to the personality (Achilles)
by inspiring it with loftier motives and higher aspirations, for by
these only is Wisdom apprehended. To the lower mental qualities the
buddhic nature remains unapparent.
