ACHILLES SON OF PELEUS AND THETIS
A symbol of the personality or lower self
begotten of the Higher Self (Peleus) and brought forth by Nature
(Thetis).
" But though thou (Achilles) be of superior strength, and a goddess
mother has given thee birth , yet he (Agamemnon) is superior in
power, in as much as he rules more people. " - Iliad , Bk . I.
Though the Personality be superior in its extent or range , touching
high and low, and is the child of Buddhi, still, judged from below,
the Desire-mind possesses greater strength since it supplies the
motive power to the lower activities, and it energizes the
qualities.
