ROCK OR STONE
A symbol of Spirit as a firm foundation for all
things. The Higher Self as a refuge from adversity. "For who is God,
save the Lord? And who is a rock, save our God?" - 2 SAM. xxii. 32.
"God only is my rock and my salvation." - Ps. Ixii. 2.
The soul relies upon the Higher Self to enable it to vanquish the
desires, and rise to the higher planes.
"Melchizedec and the three sons of Noah reach a spot where the Rock
opens and receives the chest containing the body of Adam and the
four sacred tokens. There Melchizedec remains, clothed and girdled
with fire, to serve God before the body of Adam to all time."-Book
of the Conflicts of Adam. The indwelling Higher Self with its
aspects Will, Action, and Wisdom, operating as Faith Courage and
Will, so discipline the soul (chest) that it attains to a state
which allows of its reception by the Higher Self, the 'spiritual
rock" the four tokens of its acceptance being Faith, Love, Wisdom,
and Power. In these exalted conditions the indwelling Self remains
until the Christhood is attained by the soul and the buddhic “robe”
is put on; that is, the consciousness rises to the buddhic (fire)
plane. The Self becomes the means whereby the old Adam nature is
transmuted into a living soul-and the new Adam, as the inheritor of
heaven, becomes a life-giving spirit.
"Great is the power of a life which knows that its highest
experiences are its truest experiences, that it is most itself when
it is at its best. For it, each high achievement, each splendid
vision, is a sign and token of the whole nature's possibility. What
a piece of the man was for that shining instant, it is the duty of
the whole man to be always. When the hand has once touched the rock
the heart cannot be satisfied until the whole frame has been drawn
up out of the waves and stands firm on its two feet on the solid
