JOHN 17:17
"Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is
truth."
In in biblical psychology, this verse describes the inner
consecration of the soul. Sanctification is not a ritual act but an
inner transformation in which the lower nature is aligned,
clarified, and permeated by the higher.
Truth here is not doctrine, but it is the direct radiation of the
Divine Presence within the soul.
“Sanctify them” — the purification of the inner faculties
To sanctify is to set apart, to separate the higher from the lower
within the soul.
This involves:
• cleansing the mind of distortion
• freeing the will from divided aims
• quieting the emotional turbulence
• establishing the soul in clarity and receptivity
Sanctification is the inner re‑ordering that makes the soul a vessel
for the Higher Life.
“Through thy truth” — the action of the inner Light
Truth in biblical symbolism is not conceptual. It is the living
vibration of the Divine, the direct presence of the I AM within
consciousness.
Truth acts by:
- revealing what is false
- dissolving illusion
- illuminating the real
- aligning the soul with its own higher nature
Truth is the purifying fire that sanctifies.
“Thy word is truth” — the Word as inner revelation
The “Word” is the inner Logos, the Christ‑principle within the soul.
It is:
- the voice of the Higher
- the pattern of the soul’s true form
- the guiding intelligence behind transformation
When the Word speaks within, the soul recognizes truth not as
information but as direct knowing.

John 17:17 outlines the essential movement of spiritual
transformation:
- The Higher reveals truth
- Truth purifies the lower nature
- The soul becomes sanctified or aligned with the I AM
This is the inner consecration that prepares the soul for union.
