GENESIS 1:27
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."
Inner Meaning
Genesis 1:27 describes the actualization of what was declared in Genesis 1:26. The Divine Pattern, previously spoken as intention, now becomes form within consciousness. This is the moment when the inner Adam the spiritual human
is established as a living reality within the aspirant.
"God created man in His own image" signifies the imprinting of the Higher Triad (Atma-Buddhi-Manas) upon the soul.
"Male and female created He them" symbolizes the dual polarity inherent in the Divine nature: will and love, wisdom and activity, spirit and soul. These are not biological distinctions but metaphysical principles that must be harmonized within the inner life.
This verse marks the emergence of the complete spiritual archetype, the microcosm reflecting the macrocosm.
Symbolic Breakdown
So God created man
Created:
- The Divine Pattern becomes operative within consciousness.
- The spiritual human is not formed from matter but emanates from the higher planes.
Man (Adam):
- The archetypal human, the spiritual identity, not the physical organism.
- The bearer of the Divine imprint.
In His own image
Image:
- The form of the Divine nature impressed upon the higher mind.
- The structure of the Higher Triad reflected in the soul.
His own:
- The image is not external imitation but internal correspondence.
In the image of God created He him
- Repetition emphasizes identity of pattern: the spiritual human is a microcosmic reflection of the Divine.
- "Him" refers to the unified spiritual being before differentiation into polarity.
Male and female created He them
Male:
- The active, projective, will-oriented principle (Atma).
Female:
- The receptive, nurturing, wisdom-oriented principle (Buddhi).
Them:
- The duality within unity; the soul contains both polarities.
- Symbolizes the inner marriage of will and love, mind and intuition, spirit and soul.
This is not biological gender but cosmic polarity-the twofold expression of the Divine within the human constitution.
Esoteric Interpretation
Genesis 1:27 reveals the completion of the spiritual archetype within the aspirant. The Divine Pattern is now fully impressed upon the soul. The Higher Triad becomes the governing center of the inner life, and the dual principles of will and love are established in harmonious polarity.
The verse describes the moment when the aspirant becomes capable of reflecting the Divine nature. The
"image" is the structure; the "likeness" (from verse 26) is the function. Together they form the spiritual human who can participate consciously in the Divine work.
"Male and female" signifies the inner union of opposites, the balancing of polarity, and the emergence of the whole human-the Adam Kadmon, the Anthropos, the complete spiritual being.
